The human species is an ever-changing creature. Created as a physical, mental and spiritual being; we live each day as a somewhat new entity. Each day we change in multitude of ways; most of them occurring without us even noticing they are happening. In addition to the voluntary changes, we make in our lives; our body goes through involuntary changes internally at a chemical and cellular level, externally our hair falls out, what stays grows longer, and can change color. On a mental level, our brain functions work and change around the clock, never resting. On the spiritual side of the house, from moment to moment our faith and beliefs can change as we face challenging situations or joyful moments of wonder. Whether we are asleep or awake, it makes no difference; we are changing.
Deep inside this constantly shifting miracle, we call our body, I imagine a tiny cell that never changes. It represents the one area reserved for constant resilience because it was the cell where it all began. It is that one inaugural cell where life started, our Mother Cell.
No matter who we are as a person, we all started as a single cell inside the one person who knew us before anyone else and she knew us on a shared cellular level. It is our mother who cared for us when no one else could. It is only a mother who can have a constant and connective bond with us on the most biological level, through the Mother Cell.
I am not sure if, scientifically, there is really such a thing as a Mother Cell, but I do know that each child is physically, mentally, and spiritually connected to their birth mother until the umbilical cord is severed. Once physically severed, the spiritual and mental bonds can grow stronger or weaken but they never go away. In fact, it is because of this severing that the cell has the unique ability to transfer those spiritual and mental bonds to adoptive mothers when necessary. These special bonds are meant to be eternal, going beyond the grave. They are especially strong if you were blessed with a loving, nurturing, and caring mother.
Take a minute or two to reflect on your mother and what she means to you. Then turn your thoughts inward and let your mind’s eye travel through your body in search for your Mother Cell. Even with the millions of cells in your body, you will probably have no trouble finding it; it will be the one at the very center of your heart.
If this is my last post, I want all to know that there was only one purpose for all that I have written; to have made a positive difference in the lives of others.
